Resumo: The purpose of this work is to improve the current project of Procobaja team of the Federal Technological University of Paraná, when designing a fixed gearbox with a transmission relationship that allows a good balance between speed and traction, key requirements for a Baja SAE competition. Through the survey of characteristics of the Briggs & Stratton Intek Pro® 10 HP engine, standardized by the SAE competitions, the optimum torque was obtained for design and its respective rotation. With the ratio of reduction of gearbox maximum squeeze by the team of 9:1, it was possible to size the two pairs of gears through the theory proposed by AGMA (American Gear Manufacturers Association). For the design of the axes, the design was made by the DE-ASME elliptical criterion for fatigue and deflection design. Key and bearing calculations were also specified. For calculations of gears and axes sizing, a routine was performed in the MATLAB® software to facilitate calculations of both this project and future team projects. After modeling the components using Inventor® software, the software ANSYS® was used to perform a finite element analysis on the gears in order to reduce the mass of the assembly. Studies on tolerances, bearings and lubrication were also approached by this work.
