Resumo: In this work, we present the mathematical methods related to the computations of tangents and areas under curves, developed in the XVII century, that form the basis for the concepts of derivative and integral discovered by Isaac Newton and Goofried Leibniz. We also presents Newton and Leibniz interpretation of such methods and the way they developed their own method as well the relation between them, that is, the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. In such context, we will see the Differential and Integral Calculus were not developed from zero, but it is the result of the improvement of many mathematical methods created by other mathematicians as René Descartes, Pierre de Fermat, Bonaventura Cavalieri, Jonh Wallis and Isaac Barrow.
