Resumo: This work describes the design and classroom implementation of a Didactic Sequence for the teaching of the Photoelectric Effect. The Teaching Sequence has been developed taking into account the educational context in which the inclusion of Modern and Contemporary Physics is an important subject at the High School level. The Didactic Sequence comprises videos, slides, blackboard-based explanations and the use of an applet. It was applied during three classes that were taught for a regular high school classroom at the Federal University of Technology, Paraná, in Curitiba. The effects of the Didactic Sequence were evaluated by comparing the responses to pre-test and post-test assessment tools. From this analysis, there is evidence that, after application of the Didactic Sequence, there was a significant increase in the number of students who came to know the Photoelectric Effect and were able to describe it correctly, including the use of right terminology and correct physical explanations. In addition, the students were also able to describe several applications in which the efect is employed, indicating contextualization capacity as a result of the Didactic Sequence application.
