This work has as main objective to understand how the epigraph of the work Triste Fim de Policarpo Quaresma is realized in the trajectory of the personage Policarpo Quaresma, based on the criticisms of Lima Barreto to the context of the work, relating them with the anarchist thought. Lima Barreto was active in the anarchist press during the period when he wrote his works and incorporated some anarchist critics in them. In the novel analyzed here, criticism of institutions is recurrent and the anarchist conception of power permeates the novel. The main character's difficulties in achieving his ideal, dialogues with the anarchist critics to the context of the First Brazilian Republic. More than just an exaggerated patriot, Policarpo Quaresma defends an ideal of solidarity. |
