Symbolic mechanisms are widely used by the author in order to approach themes typically from human nature. Therefore, it is relevant to analyze what these symbols mean in each of the explored text, which are: As Formigas (The Ants), Seminário dos Ratos (The Rats Seminar) and Tigrela (neologism built from “tiger” and “her”). For this reason, the Peirce conception of sign will be used to the purpose of considering the dynamism of symbols, which is culturally learned. In addition to that, the short stories will be studied according to Greimas’ theory, which divides the analyses in three parts: fundamental, narrative and discursive. The symbol is located in the last level, which is the figurative process, where the images are concretized in themes. Therefore, considering the actancial function of animals in each short story, it can be noticed how the animals’ image influences to reinforce the thematic. From this study, it is expected to enlarge of the meanings of these animals in future literary studies and also to present a deeper study of a part of the production of this renamed Brazilian writer. Este Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso busca analisar, sob um prisma semiótico, a simbologia de animais presentes em contos de Lygia Fagundes Telles. A autora utiliza-se largamente dos recursos simbólicos para tratar de temas da problemática tipicamente humana. Portanto, torna-se relevante analisar de que maneira esses símbolos significam dentro de cada um dos três contos a serem explorados, sendo eles: As Formigas, Seminário dos Ratos e Tigrela. Para tanto, a concepção de signo de Peirce será empregada a fim de contemplar a dinamicidade da significação do símbolo, a qual é apreendida culturalmente. Além disso, os textos serão estudados obedecendo à teoria greimasiana, a qual organiza a análise em três níveis: fundamental, narrativo e discursivo. A figura do símbolo concentra-se no último nível, no percurso figurativo, espaço em que se encontram imagens que materializam a temática do texto. Logo, considerando a função actancial dos animais em cada um dos contos, perceber-se-á a influência da figura dos bichos para o reforço de cada uma das temáticas.
