Resumo: It presents the production design in cinema as a construction tool of cinematic storytelling, adding layers of meaning to the story, having the main element of creating the scenario. The set design has evolved along with the movies and persue to contextualize the spectator inside the universe of the film, besides featuring the characters who reside in it. This subject comes up because since de beginning of cinema it is possible to notice the concern about the involvement of the audience with the film, when the scenery began to play an important role as a narrative tool. It demands to establish the relevance of the production design and scenography throughout movie history by selecting some films to assay how their sets influence the cinematic storytelling. As an application of the concepts developed it was designed the sets for the short film "Entre Portas" from the establishment of a working methodology for production design, listing the consecutive stages of development and the elements of scenographic composition.
