Resumo: Some research on the language scope have many times differentiated terms such as “learning” and “acquisition”. However, when studying Vigotski’s precepts, we find the bigger need to differentiate the terms “acquisition” and “development”. The following paper intends to expose the elements presented in the process of language development, proposed by Vigotski in the book “Thought and Language”, bringing as support, Bakhtin and Volochínov, exposing the importance of his theory, to also compare it to Krashen’s studies. In addition, correlating both pieces of research, we are also going to explore the problematic terminology in the use of the term “acquisition”, seeking out, through a bibliographical research, the importance on the suitable use of each term and how they influence the comprehension of the process which the subject goes through concerning the language.
