Resumo: Knowing the importance of contextualization and experimentation in Chemistry Teaching, as well as the awareness of the trash, the present work aimed to embed the concept junk in the teaching-learning process by using tools such as contextualization and experimental activity. The study was divided into two stages. The first consisted of a lecture which addressed the concepts of waste, separation of trash, garbage, recycling, and physical and chemical phenomena, and the second by an experimental activity that has been performed recycling handmade paper. The lessons were applied to students of the 1st year of high school in a public school of a city of southwestern Paraná. The results were gratifying and suggested that the application of the methodology was effective in promoting student participation in the form of questions and interventions. Moreover, it was of great value to them realize the importance of recycling, and uses it as a facilitator of learning about chemical and physical transformations.
