Caffeine is an alkaloid, a compound containing nitrogen, which has basic properties. Caffeine is oneof the main ingredients of energy drinks, which according to its producers, are designed to increase endurance, increase mental alertness, prevent sleep, among others. This paper describes the extraction and quantification of caffeine in different brands of energy found in the market through two methods: High Performance Liquid Chromatography and Spectrophotometry. The results of caffeine showed no significant difference was determined by two methods in question. |
