Through the stories the student can experience various experiences, as well as facilitate the teaching and learning process. In this sense, the present work had as objectives, to investigate how teachers work with their children’s education students to develop reading, through the practice of storytelling and how teachers work to arouse interest in books. The work was based on a qualitative bibliographical research, being the study classified as exploratory and the instruments of data collection used to ascertain the objectives were bibliographic research and documentary research. As a result, it can be seen that storytelling is a pleasurable and motivating moment for the future reader. Considering the data collected, it can be concluded that narratives of stories in early childhood education constitute an indispensable practice for potentiating the process of teaching learning in a pleasurable way and broadening the worldview of the learner. A contação de histórias possui um papel importante na Educação Infantil, visto que ela desperta a curiosidade e o interesse da criança pelo livro. Por meio dos contos o aluno pode vivenciar diversas experiências, além de facilitar o processo de ensino e aprendizagem. Nesse sentido, o presente trabalho teve como objetivos, pesquisar como os docentes trabalham com seus educandos da educação infantil o desenvolvimento da leitura, por meio da prática de contar histórias e como os docentes trabalham para despertar o interesse pelos livros. A realização desse trabalho pautou- se em uma pesquisa bibliográfica, de cunho qualitativo, sendo o estudo classificado como exploratório e os instrumentos de coleta de dados utilizados para atingir os objetivos foram a pesquisa bibliográfica e a pesquisa documental. Como resultado, pode-se constatar que a contação de histórias é um momento prazeroso e motivador para o futuro leitor.
