Resumo: The high sodium content present in the composition of food has caused serious damage to people's health, causing cardiovascular and kidney disease, high blood pressure, stroke brain obesity and left ventricular hypertrophy among others. This study aimed to verify the knowledge and perception of the students on the consumption of excess salt. The survey was conducted in Escola Estadual IV Centenario, located in the municipality of IV Centenario students with classes in 9th grade aged between 14 - 17 years. From the data obtained from the research we observed the lack of information on sodium intake, poor diet of households which consume processed products and ready meals with large amounts of sodium chloride. In this context, an informative talk on the topic was held, seeking educate students about the consequences related to excessive consumption of this product.
