Resumo: This monograph presents a survey of students in the 9th grade of elementary education at a school of the western region of São Paulo. The objective was to insert a methodological approach with CTS approach to teaching physics concepts. The CTS approach is a line of research that has been developed in Brazil over the past 20 years and, even though it be a line of research and science teaching methodology is still little explored in the school context. The knowledge in natural sciences and technologies presents education as essential for the formation of citizens. The physical education and other areas of the natural sciences, makes up the body of knowledge necessary for civic education. In the survey the students were invited to attend a series of classes where they had the opportunity to experience the knowledge of physics concepts by building a simple engine and to reflect on the need for technological development for today's society. The classes also allowed discutisses students and reflect on the impact of new technologies in nature. The survey data were collected through questionnaires before and after the experiment and the discussion about the environmental issue. The results presented in Tables 1 and 2 allow the inference that the approach taken was satisfactory, as there have been advances regarding the appropriation of concepts related to the developed experiment and social issues.
