Resumo: The present study had as main objective to investigate if the teachers of the first stage of the Elementary School use the experiments in the classroom. The aim of this research is to examine whether the teacher uses the experiments to develop students' knowledge or to consolidate concepts of the discipline of science already studied during the lessons. It is intended to verify the importance of experiments to teach science in this stage of teaching, since it is necessary to contextualize the content for a better understanding of the theory presented by the teacher. The practical activities during the classes cause the student to interact with the object of knowledge and observe how science is part of their daily routine. Experimental practice has a wider role than one imagines, since it develops in students a greater interest and motivation, as well as awakening skills and competences that will be better used in the construction and full development of the human being.
