Resumo: Through the analysis of the current school indexes, it is possible to verify that the quality of Brazilian education is deficient. Among the causes for the low performance of Brazilian students is students' lack of interest in the classroom. In order to explore different strategies that can be used by teachers to keep students motivated, interested and engaged, the objective of this work is to explain the history, fundamentals and classification of Active Teaching Methodologies, which value the student's active participation in learning process. In this sense, it is possible to conclude that the Project­Based Learning is an Active Methodology that relates the construction of knowledge to research and proposes solutions for real situations, based on the knowledge of different áreas of teaching. In this way, it allows to work the contents in a contextualized way, in order to establish a relationship between what the student learns at school and his life, representing a promising strategy, especially in Science Teaching, in the search for a more efficient and meaningful teaching and learning process.
