Resumo: The creation of early childhood education was the result of the entry of women into the labor market, as this was the need for women to delegate the care of their children to others. Early childhood education has spent decades with an assistentialist bias. With the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education (9394/96) Early Childhood Education is now seen as a modality of education, with the requirement of graduation at a higher level, to act in this type of teaching. Considering that early childhood education plays an extremely important role in the child's life and the specificities of the child's global development must be considered, the importance of teacher training for work in Early Childhood Education is understood. However, even today, Early Childhood Education faces an assistentialist vision that generates several challenges for this stage of Basic Education and for the teachers who work in it. Thus, this work aimed to study what are the main challenges in early childhood education for the teacher. This research was done through a qualitative approach using bibliographic research methods. The bibliographic research proposed to search for historical, political and conceptual aspects about the education and work of the child education professional, using among other authors: Fernandes (2013), Kuhlmann (2010), Kramer (1995), Paula (2003) Silva (2010), Angelo (2013), Freire (1999), Masullo (2015), Rocha (2012), Viana (2010).
