This research aims to study the concepts and implications that the term ‘digital literacy’ carries, since defining it does not seem to be one of the easiest tasks, given the various approaches that surround it. For this, we seek to present the origin of the term and how it has been approached in applied linguistics’ publications, aiming to deepen the debate on the subject. In addition, we selected articles from Capes and Google Scholar platforms in the period from 01/2008 to 06/2019, to, in this way, present a documentary and tax research on the work of Lima and Lima-Neto (2009), and based on the studies of Biasi-Rodrigues (1998), research based on the studies of Biasi-Rodrigues (1998), Raimundo (2006), Oliveira (2007). Literacy studies are included in Soares (2003; 2018) and Kleiman (2014; 2016), who propose meanings and resignifications of the canonical term in literature in the fields of Linguistics and Education. With Lévy (1999) and Pinto (2005), we present an interface between language and technology, up to Rojo and Moura (2012), Xavier (2013), Araújo and Pinheiro (2014) and Coscarelli and Ribeiro (2017), who address digital literacy itself. Other terms are also part of this documentary research and, due to this, it became important to present their theoretical approaches; in this way, the terms ‘literacies’, ‘multiliteracies’, ‘multiple literacies’, ‘new literacies’, ‘digital literacy’ and ‘digital literacies’ are also included in the research. They are conceptually required in their theoretical contexts, seeking to answer whether these terms hide a homology of meaning or whether there are terminological matters involved, and whether the mobilization of the theoretical scope influences this phenomenon. The research has a documentary and bibliographic aspect, since the purpose was not only to quantify or qualify data, but also to document the trajectory of the selected concepts and terms, as well as their uses in the researched articles. |
