Resumo: The contemporary schooling serves an audience with perspectives that go far beyond traditional teaching. In this context, students are identified as the ones who expect much more than the didactic book, blackboard and explanations presented as ready. The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of mobile devices in situations of English language learning for students in the 3rd grade of high school. The research was developed with a group of 24 students, considering the exploratory nature of the research, to identify motivating practices in English language classes. In order to do so, the use of technological tools in learning proposals was implemented; among these recourses the cell phone presented greater prominence in the performed activities. The students explored the resources in their mobile devices and accessed the assigned applications to study the English language. The activities were developed in the Quizlet platform and The How to Say application. Two questionnaires with open and closed questions were applied to analyze qualitatively students’ interest and participation in synchronous and asynchronous practices using their mobile phones. It was evidenced high-tech users, with interest in learning with ICT, but with the need of guidance to lead them to make appropriate choices and conscious use in the development of the different abilities to learn a foreign language.
