Resumo: The production of Brazilian broilers is currently known as one of the most productive and developed poultry in the world and the State of Paraná controls poultry in Brazil, accounting for approximately 35% of all chicken meat produced and exported by the country. Due to this information, this study aimed to identify the causes for the disposal of chickens. The research was based on the analysis of government data, reports and publications from public or private agencies, statistics. It was possible to verify that the biggest cause of discard of chicken meat by the establishment, in the two periods verified is the contamination of the carcass, followed by contusion and acne. It is believed that the contamination issue is related to the bacterium Salmonella sp. and the evisceration and cooling stages are critical points that must be controlled efficiently. It was concluded that the investigated processing unit has a large amount of discards, requiring actions within the production chain where it is located, to avoid increasing this discard, thus causing less financial loss for the company, providing a quality product to its consumers.
