Resumo: This study presents the results of a research carried out with students of the third year of high school, whose theme was to identify their conceptions about DNA, chromosomes and genes. Genetics is a key area of science that has been going through greatst rides. However, it is still seen as difficult content, both by students and teachers, and superficially worked in schools. Although issues such as transgenics organisms, cloning and the use of embryonic stem cells are often in the media, many students are unaware of these facts. Studies indicate that students who complete high school have low knowledge in this area. The main objective of this study is to analyze the knowledge about Genetics from graduating high school students in the city of Cachoeira do Sul, RS. For this, a memory game and a questionnaire about Genetic subjects were applied to high school graduates. Thirteen high school students from a public (notpaid) school participated in the activity. From the analysis of the results of the application of the game and the questionnaire it was possible to verify that the students have low knowledge in Genetics and misconceptions when it comes to DNA, genes and chromosomes. The game proved to be a useful tool for teaching biology, arousing student's interest and willingness to learn.
