Resumo: Linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) is recognized as a major source of omega 3 and omega 6 essential fatty acids, in addition to fiber and phenolic compounds known by possess antioxidant activity and due to its specific properties against cancer. However, this food can be the target of the presence of fungi, that may interfere with their quality. The objective of this study was to analyze the fungal contamination of Linseed marketed in Campo Mourão PR. Analyzes were performed in triplicate in 10 brown linseed samples, by direct plating technique with seed surface disinfection and no surface disinfection. The results were expressed as percentage of fungal contamination. All samples showed fungal contamination and samples which have undergone surface treatment had reduced fungal growth. The predominant genera of fungi were identified, namely Aspergillus, Penicillium, Mucor, Rhizopus, Alternaria e Cladosporium, showing the need for improved quality control of these food.
